    Building #6 renovation @ Design-zavod Flacon, Moscow

Flacon’s #6 stands in a raw of buildings at Northern front of Flacon campus, along Novodmitrovskaya street. The building was seriously damaged by the fire in 2006 and since then stood abandoned. Renovation aims to сatalyze a new life on this local plot of the city. Flacon gets new rental spaces and receives a brand new face.

The building is designated for retail shops and cafés. Inner space is divided into 5 compartments with 2-sided orientation, each provided with entrances from both street and courtyard. Original single-story volume receives new facades with big showcase windows. The rental area is almost doubled by installing a mezzanine level under a sloping roof. To provide a light there, 5 projected roof skylights are introduced, contributing greatly to the building new appearance. Facades are clad with very cheap local brick which has undergone a special hand-treatment on the construction site to achieve a new visual and tactile quality.

Design-zavod Flacon is a former glass plant in the north of Moscow, converted into a cluster of creative industries. Since 2010 it offers office spaces for rent, with loose and informal atmosphere of DIY environment and lots of leisure activities.
